BCSC event promotes STEM careers for girls

Registration has opened for a free event geared toward developing girls in fifth and sixth grades to better understand non-traditional roles in STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math.

“Girl Up! We Can Do It!” is a free event for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. girls to see female role models and mentors in a STEM career path.

The event is Friday, Oct. 25 from 6-9:30 p.m. at Columbus North High School, 1400 25th St.

The evening begins with hands on STEM activities led by Cummins Inc. and local community volunteers, as well as high school students from Columbus East and Columbus North high schools and dinner provided by BCSC Food Services.

Throughout the evening, the girls will experience activities in bio-medical, welding, engineering, graphic design, culinary arts and more. Each girl will go home with a specially designed T-shirt and a bag filled with STEM-related goodies and activities.

Registration is free and open to 150 girls in grades 5 and 6. To register, go to tinyurl.com/girl-up-flyer-2019. The last date to register is Oct. 11.
