Around Town – October 19

Orchids to …

• those who support abolishing the Electoral College so we never have to suffer through a debacle like the 2016 election again, where the wishes of the majority of the American people did not count.

• Columbus Fire Department, Deputy Chief Mark Ziegler, and Capt. Mike Wilson for visiting and sharing fire safety with future firemen and firewomen, from Smith Elementary first-graders.

• to the majority of Indiana members of Congress who voted to condemn the president’s actions in Syria.

• a man from Big Lots who alerted me about a problem in the parking lot.

• volunteers from Thrive Alliance for building a wonderful ramp for me and repairing my front stairs, from Betty Shaw.

• Sister Ferguson for the flowers, Addison Ferguson for the picture she drew and everyone who is praying for me, from Judy.

Onions to …

• the soon-to-be ex who does nothing to finish a 40-year marriage like it never happened.

• the spouse who just wrote me out of 40-plus-year relationship with family but retains my name.

• the local public official who has multiple ethics issues on his watch, yet wants to be a judge.

• people with the short memory that Bill Clinton was a draft dodger as well.

• the impulsive president who starts crises in order to solve them and make himself look like a hero.

• our local representative who voted against a resolution overwhelmingly supported by both parties.

• the vice president who apparently doesn’t understand the difference between a pause in bombing and a cease-fire, which is used toward negotiating an end to a conflict.

• the vice president who “negotiates” a deal that says you have five days to leave your home or be killed in Syria.

• the elementary basketball coach that hung the team on a piece of paper on the door instead of having the decency to tell the kids that he cut the news to their face.
