Time to give back

Leaves are changing amid the fall colors. And if you think you could make the smallest of changes in your schedule to help others, local leaders of nonprofits believe it makes a big difference. Here below are just a few options, with the time commitment desired per week or month, and a whole list of others on Page B5.

3 hours

High-flying help: Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum is seeking docents to greet visitors, help with tours, provide information on history of the former air base, work on displays, assist with cataloging artifacts and books. Members meet at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the museum at 4742 Ray Boll Boulevard in Columbus. Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Hours flexible

Reading is fundamental: Volunteer tutors are needed at McDowell Adult Education Center at 2700 McKinley Ave. to work with struggling adult readers. High school students are welcome and although most of our volunteers focus on reading, a need for math, science, and/or tutors for English language learners are also needed. 4 hours

Helping move to a brighter day: Love Chapel Ministries’ Brighter Day Housing emergency shelter facility needs volunteers o supervise residents staying at the building at 421 S. Mapleton St. Staff will be accompanying volunteers as well. Hours: 24/7 with a variety of times available amid four-hour shifts. Time commitment: 4 hours per month.
