Fire damages home on Hinman Street

Columbus firefighters are continuing an investigation into a house fire at 4:56 p.m. Friday at 22 S. Hinman St. on the city’s east side.

A neighbor had called 911 to report smoke and flames coming from the two-story home, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

CFD Engine Co. 3 was the first fire crew to arrive on the scene, Wilson said.

Fire was visible from several windows in the two-story home and firefighters were initially unable to determine if anyone was inside, Wilson said.

Without confirmation that the home was unoccupied, Engine Co. 3 Lt. Don Richards  and his crew made entry for a search.

Firefighters worked to put out flames on the front porch so firefighters could enter the home. After performing a search, firefighters confirmed the home was empty, Wilson said.

While inside the home, firefighters quickly brought the fire under control.

Damages to the home are estimated at $ 55,000. No injuries were reported at the scene.
