Trinity Lutheran claims regional title

LOOGOOTEE — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran is headed back to the volleyball semistate following a pair of victories in Saturday’s Loogootee Regional.

The Cougars overcame a slow start to beat No. 2 Loogootee 12-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-13 in the semifinal. Trinity then swept Springs Valley 25-19, 25-15, 25-13 in the championship.

Hannah Sabotin pounded 18 kills and two blocks, and Kamzi Gross had 18 digs and four aces against Loogootee. Bailey Reynolds recorded 36 assists.

Against Springs Valley, Reynolds led the Cougars with 36 assists and three aces. Sabotin tallied 15 kills, Sydney Jaynes had four blocks and Gross notched 12 digs.

Also for Trinity in the title game, Jaynes pounded 10 kills, Sabotin had three blocks, Kennedy Hoffman added seven kills and two blocks, Elly Carter and Stella Kleffman each posted four digs and Gross and Ruthie Bingham each served two aces.

The Cougars (29-5) advance to the semistate, where they will play No. 8 Bloomfield at 4 p.m. Saturday at Jasper.
