Around Town – November 8

Orchids to …

• Mayor Lienhoop for coming to the Democratic victory party.

• Daydiana at Walmart on State Road 46 putting the microwave in my car.

• John Freed Insurance for always looking out for us, from Larry and Kathy Rudd.

• the kind people who bought our lunch at Johnny Carino’s on Tuesday’s evening when we were celebrating our 64th wedding anniversary.

• all the medics who came to our aid on Tuesday morning, from the Longs.

• everyone planning to attend the “Red for Ed” action day at the statehouse on Nov. 19 to support public education.

• Andy East for the great article regarding the long service of the three employees for Columbus Regional hospital.

• Hubler Honda service department, especially Randy for putting air in my tires on Saturday.

Onions to …

• people who order lunch delivery online at work without including a tip and then have the front office staff sign for it — avoiding giving a tip to the driver.

• those who say, “you don’t have good childhood memories or you’re from out of town,” about the Crump when I have great Columbus childhood memories — none of which include the Crump — and couldn’t care less about a derelict theater.

• the person who missed the point about signage with the word “firemen” — it’s not inclusive and it ignores the women in the department who do the same job as the men and aren’t recognized.

• the person complaining about poor reception of the IU basketball game when all they had to do was tune to a different radio station to hear the game.

• the Republican city council candidates who won and admit to reaching out to their constituents less and less each term.

• non-voters just beginning to realize that general elections matter and that primaries do too.

Happy Birthday to …

• Nancy Menefee, from your family, Ruth, traveling friends and Donna.

• Lois Olmstead, from friends at Bethel Baptist Church.

ANOTHER beautiful morning
