MUNCIE — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran found themselves down two sets early on Saturday in the Class A volleyball state finals against No. 2 Cowan at Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University.
The Cougars came back to tie the game at two sets apiece, but fell in the fifth set tiebreaker to finish runner-up with a 30-28, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 15-5 loss.
After the conclusion of the match, Trinity Lutheran’s Hannah Sabotin was the winner of the Class A Mental Attitude Award. She is the first Mental Attitude recipient for the Cougars.
The back-and-forth affair produced 31 ties and 14 leading changes in the match.
For the game, Hannah Sabotin finished with 12 kills and eight digs. Kennedy Hoffman finished with 12 kills and three digs. Bailey Reynolds finished with 31 assists, 15 digs and two aces. Sydney Jaynes had 10 kills and five blocks Kamzi Gross added with 26 digs. Ruthie Bingham finished with 6 digs, four assists and two aces. Elly Carter added 10 digs. Bailey Tabeling finished with five kills and two digs.
Trinity Lutheran finishes the year 30-6, while Cowan finishes the year 30-4.
Cowan’s win on Saturday gives them its second volleyball state championship. They won the first title in 2012.
