Around Town – November 12

Orchids to …

• Kirk Johannesen, for his hard work during his tenure at The Republic, from John Tinkey.

• the city of Columbus for finally taking a landlord to task over a property that has been a blight to the area for many, many years.

• Mayor Lienhoop for understanding what has always made Columbus great is people who love Columbus working together for the common good, without concern or pettiness about party labels or affiliations.

• the 15th annual Deja Vu Art Show and organizers Marilyn and Larry Brackney for bringing superior artists from all over the state and region to downtown Columbus Saturday, from grateful business owners throughout the downtown.

• students at White Creek who came to Just Friends to spend time with us.

• Debbie for taking your parents to the Lasting Impressions’ Veterans Day musical program and dinner.

• the couple that bought our lunch Sunday at a local restaurant — we will pay it forward.

• those who refuse to participate, disobey, and leave the tyrant behind.

• those who realize the moment we begin to steer the opinions of others, and hesitate to tell the truth, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of life and light no longer flow into our souls.

• Mike Pence for laying of the wreath of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Veterans Day.

Onions to …

• the city for letting one company maintain an eyesore while complaining about another’s sign type and size.

• the two young men who sold my elderly mother a lemon.

• local Republicans for making excuses and not taking on the challenge.

• Athens of the Prairie that seems to want to ignore one of its older, more architectural historical buildings.

• farmers who think they can drive their tractors through the city of Columbus with no license plates.

• BCSC administration for not closing and thinking Nov. 19 will be a safe and productive learning day when they can’t even find enough subs on regular school days.

• the nosy man on the golf cart that interrupts anyone he finds outside — I now hide when I see him coming out the county road.

• Central parents who continue to use the bus lane in the morning when they know they aren’t supposed to.

• the office committee union that is paid by and supports the company over its members.

• Democrats for forcing God out of the country — no wonder you think we have no moral compass.

• the Democratic Party protecting its own interests instead of the interests of the citizens.

• all the teachers and schools planning on taking a day off in class time to protest — maybe you should do that in the summer or another break time.

• the horrible patching repair job on North U.S. 31.

• the man with the large dog on Sycamore Drive who after dark allows the dog to go up in people’s front yards and defecate and does not pick it up.

• local elected Republicans who raised taxes and then blew millions of these dollars on projects like the riverfront, the FairOaks Mall and Westenedge Drive; if you act like Democrats, I’ll vote for them to get you out of office.

• those that don’t realize theater attendance could never even begin to pay the $11 million (or more) Crump renovation cost and taxpayers would end up footing the bill.

• those that don’t realize some people in the White House have to make a tough decision, which is disloyalty to the President, or to the country.

• those that don’t understand the mayor going to a Democrat victory party was just to meet some of the people he would be working with to help make Columbus a great town.

• those that don’t realize if you see an aggressive wheelchair at the mall all you need to do is step aside.

• anyone who thinks that U.S. 31 in northern Bartholomew County is the responsibility of local government.

• the landlord who begs for numerous extensions to repair a property; if it had been properly maintained through the years, it would not have needed numerous repairs now.

• veterinarians whose clinics are not open on Saturday or Sunday.

• a fast food restaurant chain that didn’t honor veterans this year.

• Belated Happy Birthday to…

• Jennifer Rogers from Joseph Hart Chapter DAR.

• Nancy Schoenbein, from Joseph Hart Chapter DAR.

• Shauna Nicunt Wheat: sorry we missed it, from friends.

Happy Anniversary to …

• Tom and Jane Goecker, from Dad, Jeri, Brandon, and Kristen
