James A. “Jim” Richie, 56, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life unexpectedly Thursday morning, November 14, 2019 at his home.

Jim was born March 14, 1963, in Columbus, Indiana, to the late Elbert and Lourena M. Cookson Richie. On August 30, 1997, Jim married Nicholle R. Fisher; she survives.

Jim was a 1982 graduate of Columbus East High School. Jim was a longtime truck driver; he was formerly employed by N.L. Thomas Trucking and was currently driving for National Petroleum Transport.

Jim really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he and his white Doberman, Kasper, were inseparable.

A car enthusiast, Jim liked dirt track and drag racing, muscle cars, and attending car shows.

Jim had a passion for fishing and music and recently spent a lot of time listening to Pink Floyd.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nicholle; his son, Lane W. Richie and his companion, Shelby Brooks of Columbus; siblings, Wanda (Joe) Hertz of Madison, Rick Richie of Columbus and Terri (Dan) Perkinson of Columbus; his mother and father-in-law, Carolyn and Max Haymaker of Columbus; aunt and uncle, Joyce and Bob Cookson of Columbus; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Dena Fisher of Columbus; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; and close family friends, the Cheek family and the Gilpin family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Lourena Richie and a brother, Mike Malone.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Virgil Clotfelter will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jim will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
