A traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration led to the arrests of two Columbus residents on drug possession charges Wednesday.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., CPD officers observed a vehicle with an expired license plate.
Officers stopped the car near 17th Street and Maple Street and spoke to the driver, Anne M. Lovelace, 41, of Columbus and her passenger, Kristopher A. Lobdell, 34, of Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later officers requested a Columbus Police Department canine respond to the scene. The canine alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, Harris said.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly located a bag containing methamphetamine inside the car, Harris said.
Lovelace and Lobdell each were taken into custody and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where each was being held on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
