Hickory Creek at Columbus resident Ruth Elliott, 81, is no stranger to the wonderful chaos of having children surrounding her — she was a mother to 13.

“I raised my four children, and six stepchildren and I adopted three children,” she said. “I’ve always loved children and I love that my family is so close-knit.”

Now at age 81, and living at Hickory Creek, a skilled nursing facility, the staff wanted to honor her by inviting Bei Bambini preschoolers to surround her and give her a chance to teach the children how to make pies.

As an activity, the children assisted Elliott and other residents in making pies to allow her to remember special memories of cooking with her own children, staff members said.

The children made small individual pudding pies that they were able to eat and share with residents.

“Pie is a big deal around here at Hickory Creek … every year we try to do something that involves pie and this year, we decided to partner with the preschool and highlight Ruth Elliott, for her dedication to her children. It’s a win, win for everyone, because we all get to eat the pies,” said Diana Gore, Hickory Creek administrator.
