Crusaders win thriller

KNIGHTSTOWN — Madison Henderson scored on a putback with two seconds remaining Saturday to give Columbus Christian a 47-45 win against defending ICSAA state champion Victory Christian at Knightstown’s historic Hoosier Gym.

The Crusaders (5-2) overcame a 22-21 halftime deficit. The game was tied at 31-31 after three quarters.

Kayla Jones led the Columbus Christian with 13 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Ellie Ridder added 10 points and five steals, and Kaitlyn Conrad grabbed 10 rebounds.

Ramey reaches 1,000

TRAFALGAR — Edinburgh senior Destiney Ramey scored 31 points went over the 1,000-point mark for her career in a 71-62 loss at Indian Creek Saturday in the semifinals of the Johnson County Tournament.

Haven Link added 12 points for the Lancers (4-1).

Chargers stop Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur was within 28-21 at halftime Saturday, but North Decatur pulled away for a 59-37 win in the first of two meetings between the county rivals, this one a nonconference matchup.

Loryn Pate led the Cougars (1-6) with 15 points.

Trinity tops Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Class A No. 3 Trinity Lutheran overcame a slow start Saturday to pull away for a 54-30 win at Crothersville.

Sydney Jaynes led the Cougars (2-1) with 22 points. Kailene Cockerham added 10.

Eagles rout Knights

BRAZIL — Brown County limited Northview to 10 points in the first half Friday and rolled to a 55-30 win in its Western Indiana Conference opener.

Abby Fleetwood and Allison Stogsdill each scored 13 points to lead the Eagles (3-1, 1-0). Anna Fleetwood added nine.

Columbus Christian falls

KNIGHTSTOWN — Columbus Christian was within 40-38 at halftime Saturday before defending ICSAA state champion Victory Christian pulled away for a 98-57 victory at Knightstown’s Hoosier Gym.

Gabe Ridder led the Crusaders (0-5) with 18 points. C.J. Reed added 11.

WRESTLING

Eagles split pair

SCOTTSBURG — Brown County opened its season by splitting a pair of matches Saturday, beating Scottsburg 48-12 and falling to Southwestern (Hanover) 33-27.

Chris Luckey (132 pounds), David Tucker (145), Hunter Funkhouser (182), Lane Mullins (220) and Sam Allen (285) all went 2-0 for the Eagles.
