Around Town – December 4

Orchids to …

• the Best Buddies at Columbus East High School; you are wonderful — thank you for your compassion.

• the most sincere neighbor Steve Hoevener, who volunteers and visits to shut-ins, hospital patients, residence care people, and those he knows need help, like myself; he is a true God-fearing husband, parent and friend, from Gene Wint.

• Pam at Loesch Heating & Air Conditioning for always being pleasant and for being incredibly efficient with my gas company rebate application, from Sheryl.

• Landon and Tim for their very thoughtful gift, from Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center.

• those who know that when this president is out of office we all will have joy in our lives.

• Chris, words can’t express how grateful I am for mulching all my leaves and picking them up, from Marian.

• the pretty lights on Maple Street across from North High school — a cheery way to start your day.

Onions to …

• the white Acura SUV on Flintwood that passed a stopped school bus with the red stop sign out and flashing Monday afternoon.

• whoever failed to mention that underpaid Bartholomew Consolidated Schools’ support staff of teaching assistants, secretaries, technicians, cafeteria and T&M workers also had to unexpectedly wait 18 months for their raises.

• local churches who use local governmental services but pay no taxes.

• the employees that make over 100 grand, but bemoan waiting 18 months for a raise.

• people who don’t understand that paying into a fund that then gets distributed by the government is exactly how socialism works.

• the traffic signal that needs a left turn arrow on Central Avenue onto 10th Street from the turn lane.

• the need for a left turn arrow on the traffic signal for Whitfield Drive onto Tenth Street.

• these Republicans who are dismissive of how the president acts when he’s at a rally or sending Tweets — he has a horrible personality; get rid of him.

• the city for passing an unnecessary ordinance that causes extensive lawsuits.

• how things are going to change with the Me Too movement — forget about mistletoe at the holiday Christmas parties.

• those that think the United States is a democracy — it is a republic and not a democracy.

• the fact that it’s time for a shift in our leadership in our do-nothing congress.

Happy Birthday to …

• Johnny Fife, from your family and Donna.

• Betty Whittington, from friends at Bethel Baptist Church.
