Around Town – December 10

Orchids to …

• Amazing Joe’s for offering dementia-friendly dining — may it become so popular that they expand the initiative and lead other restaurants to do the same.

• President Trump for providing again the lowest unemployment rate in the U.S. since 1969.

• Nancy Pelosi for her strong moral denouncement against the term “hatred” and her courageous defense of the U.S. Constitution.

• Chevrolet of Columbus for being so kind to others, from Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center.

• Chevrolet of Columbus dealership for a special afternoon on Sunday for my grandchildren, from a grateful grandma.

• Andy and Melissa Rager, thanks for having the Rager cousins reunion — had a blast! from Paula Rager Kaufman.

• Robin at CVS on U.S. 31 for locating the popcorn tin at the other CVS store and having them hold it.

• Amy Weisner for her 18-point ballgame at Earlham College on Saturday, from Grandma.

• Kevin Butler at First United Methodist Church for the wonderful holiday celebration on Friday evening.

• the U.S. intelligence community for going to Republican senators with information regarding alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, and not Ukraine.

• Jen Riddle and First United Methodist Church for a wonderful Santa’s workshop.

• the Christmas angel that raked my leaves on Taylor Road — much appreciated.

Onions to …

• drivers who do not realize that an oncoming vehicle with its right turn signal on might be turning beyond you or that its signal might be stuck on and you really shouldn’t enter the road until you see the wheels turn.

• the charter school teacher who ordered $18 worth of lunch, refused to tip, and had someone else sign for their order.

• the announcer at the elementary school basketball game Wednesday night who was clearly a supporter of one of the teams while announcing, and was rude to opposing teams’ players.

• the university coach making $27 million.

• art snobs.

• those who think the Democrats in the House have done nothing, as they have passed almost 300 bills this year alone.

• all those who want the President impeached, for you must live sad, angry lives to spend so much emotion on this.

• the city garage for not picking up our leaves after they said they would.

• the eatery for letting good people go, but employing bad workers who give poor service.

• all the people who stole from me all year long.

• a letter writer who would make a good fiction writer.

• the motorist who knocked off my driver’s side mirror on Friday afternoon on Sixth Street near Irwin Gardens.

• the guy who blows all of his grass, leaves and trash into the street so it all winds up in everyone’s yard but his.

• people who actually believe that the president will be removed from office.

• people who don’t understand that abortion is the right of citizens protected by the due process clause of the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution.

• holding companies that buy strategic pieces of land and do not follow through on their commitments, leaving the local residents with an eyesore for the long foreseeable future.

• the so-called friend who promises to do things with you, then backs out and doesn’t let you know.

• those who believe our hospital is a hospital like it was in the olden days.

• the hospital officials who must have missed the class on long-range planning.

• the code enforcement officer who has lost control of rubbish being dumped on the west side.

• the millions spent on land but no cost reduction for medical services provided to the public.

• the local agency for skipping the event that was magical to little girls in past years.

• the letter writer who left out facts that didn’t fit her false narrative.

• drivers who do not realize that while it is legal to turn right on red when traffic is clear, it’s not required to do so, especially if the lane you want is clear but an oncoming vehicle in another lane could decide to move into that lane.

• drivers who don’t realize left-hand lanes without turn arrows are that way because so few are using that turn lane, which allows the majority of oncoming traffic flow to continue without disruption.

• drivers who don’t realize if you don’t like left turns without traffic arrows, you can usually find a longer right-hand route which I do to and from the big box grocery store.

• those who don’t realize that some onions are based on facts that will never have any proof.

• any congressional representatives who deny that Donald Trump is violating the Constitution and inviting a foreign country to interfere in our elections.

• a President who forgets his oath to the Constitution, not to America First.

• Republican senators continuing to push Russian propaganda.

• the city for not enforcing their own ordinances for the land developer also known as a medical organization.

• Republicans because they remind me of a catfish — all mouth and no brains.

Happy Birthday to …

• Rick Gates, from your family.

• Joyce Howard, from your family, friends and co-workers.

• Russell Wilson, from family and friends.

• Lucille Jaggers on no. 52, from Paul and kids.
