Around Town – December 13

Orchids to …

• the wonderful staff early Wednesday morning at Columbus Regional Hospital ER for being fast, courteous and thorough.

• Greta Thunberg, for her honesty and spirit, and for teaching us that we all need to do our part in combating climate change.

• the Democrats for attempting to hold this president accountable and focusing on two articles of impeachment.

• the respectful neighbors who take care of their own leaves before they are blown into the yards of others who attempt to take care of the condition of their properties.

• the newspaper who blew the whistle — and quickly informed its readers — on the county judge’s unwitting short-changing of public notice.

• 404 errors.

• Sue Paris, Nancy Woodruff, Horace Tucker and Mr. Kuhne at Lincoln Elementary School for props, from Readers Theatre members at Mill Race.

• Inspector General Horowitz, who said there were terrible abuses of the FISA process, which should be alarming to anyone, however, he also stated the FBI investigation into the Trump campaign was properly predicated.

• Henry Social Club for its generous donation to our Columbus East fundraiser.

• Thai Connection, The Garage, Yes Cinema and Riviera Maya for your generosity in helping make our fundraiser a success, from Columbus East High school.

• all of the brave people in Congress who are standing up for the rule of law and the Constitution, knowing there may be political repercussions and for putting their country above the party.

Onions to …

• the adults and students of the local school that hosted a bike ride Wednesday evening at Mill Race Park who were not wearing helmets.

• Columbus Police leadership for deploying the emergency notification system at 4 a.m. for a missing adult and the city official who allows it.

• whoever designed the new Home Avenue route — anyone driving a truck or large vehicle could not safely drive down with opposing traffic.

• city officials for declaring many properties public nuisances because they are “eyesores,” however, when it comes to a certain hospital, they claim there is nothing they can do about its huge eyesore at our community’s entrance.

• the public school teacher who ordered $14 worth of lunch, refused to tip, and had someone else sign for their order.

• the president who called dedicated FBI staff “scum.”

• Democrats: we know who you are, and what you are and you need to go back to Jacksonville.

• the president for calling the FBI “scum” at his rally.

• the grocery store that charges a fee to receive cash back.

• Republicans who can only distract, deceive and yell because they have no defense of the president’s actions.

• Republicans who were formerly for balanced budgets, free trade, low deficits and pushing back against Russia — and are now acting in the opposite way.

• those who feel the need to be rude and berate people who use the phrase “don’t realize” — perhaps a therapist could help you.

• the state of Indiana and the politicians who force the people of Indiana to pay for translators at the drivers license branch for Spanish-speaking people — they’re not the only foreigners in this country.
