A driver was rescued Wednesday after she was found in her vehicle that had traveled down an embankment into a ditch in the 9000 West block of County Road 700S.
The driver, Justina Roberts, 33, of 14271 S. Jonesville Road, was seen waving a red flag in an attempt to get the attention of passing motorists at 4:36 p.m. Wednesday, deputies said.
Kyra Myers, wife of Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers, was traveling by and saw the red flag, immediately calling 911 so deputies were sent to the scene.
On arrival, sheriff’s department Capt. Dave Steinkoenig observed a white passenger car down an embankment. It appeared the vehicle had run off the side of the roadway, hit a dirt embankment, became airborne and came to rest in a deep ditch, deputies said.
Steinkoenig found Roberts still in the driver’s seat. She was unable to exit the vehicle on her own due to an ankle injury, deputies said.
Southwest Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS removed Roberts through the car’s window.
Roberts told deputies that she was on her way to Mt. Healthy Elementary School to pick up her children when another vehicle ran her off the road. While deputies were speaking to Roberts, they detected the odor of alcohol, deputies said.
Roberts was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where she tested .14 in blood-alcohol content, deputies said. Roberts was admitted to the hospital due to her injury, deputies said.
A request for charges is being forwarded to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, deputies said.
