One-year-old Christopher Peetz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Peetz of South Drive, was among the hoards of children who surrounded Santa Claus when he arrived at Columbus Shopping Center in 1969.

For the third year in a row, Hauser Jr. Sr. High School was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s best high schools, considerably exceeding Indiana state standards.

1994

Two Columbus men lost in Reeve’s Cave in Monroe County were rescued by members of Bloomington Grotto spelunking club after a resident alerted police to the pair’s van parked along the road near the cave’s entrance.

1969

Local factory workers who saved more than 200,000 empty cigarette packages in nine months to help raise money for a young boy’s medical needs, were informed the packages were worthless because the scheme was a hoax.
