COLUMBUS
Delores Marie Weeks, 87, of Columbus passed from this life on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 3:15 a.m. at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital.
Born on December 10, 1931 in Columbus, Indiana the daughter of Clayton Earl and Bertha Harlow Lackey. On July 25, 1953 she married Robert A. Weeks.
She was a member of United Brethren, Evangelical, Sandy Hook Methodist Church and a member of three Extension Homemaker Clubs in three separate communities. She and her husband owned a Sno Cone summer Vending business from 1956 to 1980 in Columbus. She did secretarial work till marrying and for a period worked as secretary at Farmers Marketing in Columbus. She also was a partner in her husband’s Masonry Contracting business from 1955 to 1988. They also owned and operated a Video Game business in Seymour called “The Owl’s Nest.”
In later years, she became active in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill organization and was a Board Member and President of NAMI Indiana. She lobbied for this organization at State and National levels and was President of the local Columbus affiliate for many years.
She was a wonderful wife and mother and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert A. Weeks; children, Dawn (Dee) Green of Camby, Indiana, Robert (Rachael) Weeks Jr. of Walkerton, Indiana, and Joseph Weeks of Pendelton, Indiana; grandchildren, Jolene, Samantha, Evan, Sean, and Nick; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Lackey.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mildred LaRock, Glenn Eugene Lackey, and Eva Mae Lortz, Marshall.
In keeping with Mrs. Weeks’ wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no services at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.
