The Bartholomew County commissioners have accepted the lowest bid submitted for repairs to the Bartholomew County Veterans Memorial.

The commissioners accepted a $121,050 bid from Quality Masonry Company, Inc. of Marion, Ohio on Monday to do the work on crumbling masonry on the lower part of the memorial’s pillars.

The company’s bid was nearly two-and-a-half times lower than the only bid submitted by a local contractor.

A few weeks ago, the commissioners asked DLZ Indiana senior structural analyst Elliott Allen to study all bids to ensure each submitting contractor understood the scope of the project.

DLZ engineer Charlie Day read a letter to the commissioners from Allen on Monday that confirmed all three bids were evaluated. In the letter, Allen recommended the commissioners accept the Quality Masonry bid.

As part of his recommendation, Allen wrote he had worked with Quality Masonry a number of times, most recently on the Huntington County Courthouse in northeast Indiana, adding the company had provided favorable results.
