Samuel Russell Hilderbrand, 65, of Nineveh, passed away December 26, 2019, at his home.
Sam was born May 7, 1954 in Columbus, the son of Jesse Clarence and Evelyn Laverne Jewell Hilderbrand.
He is survived by his children, Samuel R. (Sommer) Hilderbrand Jr. and Laura (William) Gallion both of Columbus; grandchildren, Rudi, Lillian, Julia, Evelyn, Connor, Sophia, Carson, McKayla, Carolina, and Parker; great-grandchildren, Xavier and Jaxson; his significant other, Georgia Burton of Nineveh; a step-daughter, Jennifer McAllister of Nineveh; his siblings, William Hilderbrand of Franklin, Rebecca (Joe) Shelton, Toni (Dale) Jordan, and Alice Fields all of Columbus, and Karen Cox of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Archie, Charlie, Jesse Ralph, Johnny Ray, and Clarence Alvie Hilderbrand; as well as sisters, Vivian Michael, Emma George, and Judy Bassett.
Sam was a U.S. Army Veteran, and enjoyed fishing and sports, playing basketball and softball when he was younger. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday January 3, 2019 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2019 and one hour prior to the service date. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
