MADISON — Despite an entirely new lineup, the Columbus East wrestlers scored more points in winning the Hoosier Hills Conference meet Saturday than they did in 2018 when they finished third in the state.

The 15th-ranked Olympians amassed 258.5 points to capture the team title for the fourth consecutive year. Jeffersonville finished second with 221, and Floyd Central was third with 215.5.

“Today, we thought it was going to be really close between Jeffersonville, Floyd and us, and we came out in the first round and put a lot of distance between ourselves and them,” East coach Chris Cooper said.

Four Olympians won their respective weight classes — Noah Lykins (113 pounds), Kade Law (160), Sam Morrill (170) and Noah White (182). Law and Morrill were wrestling up a weight class.

Liam Krueger (106), Bo Wagner (120), Jacob Shaver (138), Tyler Williams (145), Eli Pollitt (152) and Ashton Hartwell (285) all finished second for East. Shawn Tyler (220) took third; and Alijah Tungate (126), Reece Fisher (132) and James Sawyer (195) all were fifth.

“I’m really happy with the way we wrestled,” Cooper said. “We had a good first round, then the second round started off really well. Bo Wagner was a No. 5 seed and beat the No. 1 seed in the semifinals, and that kind of set the tone, and we went from there.”

Jennings County finished fifth with 118 points. Cameron Woodard (182) and Crayton Morrison (195) each finished second.

Also for the Panthers, Jenn Ramirez (106) took third. Teagan Johnson (126) and Rusty Vaughn (160) each were fourth.
