Veva E. Newsom, 97, passed away February 6, 2020 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Veva was born on June 20, 1922 in Jonesville, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Nora E. Ballage.
Veva was a member of Elizabethtown Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing and watching cooking shows.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda S. Ortiz of Grand Island, Nebraska; grandson, Charles Erik Bailey of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Tara Ortiz of Grand Island, Nebraska, her “adopted family”, Karen (Mark) Crider; grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Wyatt, Marc Crider, and Ashlea Crider, all of Columbus, and Nicole (Jon) Menefee of North Carolina; 12 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Newsom; sisters, Anna Forway, Mabel I. Allen; great-grandson, Sean Matthew Bailey, and great-grandchildren, Johnathon Crider, and Jameasyn Crider.
A Funeral Service for Veva will be held Tuesday, February 11, at 11 a.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel with Rev. Doran Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Memorial Contributions in Veva’s name may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Elizabethtown Christian Church.
