GREENSBURG
Larry Bruce Mayes, 78, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday February 8, 2020 at Aspen Health Campus.
Born December 6, 1941 in Columbus, Larry was the son of Bill and Pauline Mayes. He graduated in 1960 from Jackson Township High School in Decatur, County. He then graduated from Asbury College in 1965 with a Bachelor degree. He married Kay Henderson November 16, 1969 at the Alert Methodist Church and she survives.
He moved to Georgia in 1972 and worked as a truck driver and retired from the Teamsters Union. In his earlier years he taught Jr. high school and coached basketball at Butlerville, IN.
He was previously a member of the Alert Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, August of 1967 to May of 1969. He was a fan of IU and other college basketball.
There will be a graveside service for Larry Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kay of Greensburg; brother, Dan (Sue) Mayes of Columbus; brother in laws, Eric (Betty) Henderson of Westport and Steve (Linda) Henderson of Columbus; a nephew, Jason (Stacia) White of Columbus and several other nieces and nephews he loved.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sue White and a brother in law, Mike Henderson.
