MALE

Noah White // Columbus East senior wrestler

White won his 182-pound first-round match by technical fall, his quarterfinal by pin, lost his semifinal by decision and won his third-place match by pin at Saturday’s Evansville Semistate.

His performance last week: “I feel like I did pretty good qualifying for state. I’m still kind of upset about my semifinal match, losing by one point, but other than that, I still set myself up in a really good position for Friday night at state.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Get sleep the night prior, eat good food after weigh-ins and just calm down, get my mind in the right place, get my heart race steady, get warmed up and get ready to go.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “Calculus with Mr. (Zachary) Schroeder”

Favorite sports team: “Iowa wrestling”

Favorite athlete: “(former Penn State wrestler) Bo Nickal”

Role model: “My dal (Robert White)”

Best advice: “K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).”

Athletics goal: “To place at state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Antarctica, because I want to see some penguins.”

FEMALE

Rachel Sabotin // Trinity Lutheran senior swimmer

Sabotin wrapped up her high school career by finishing third in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly in Saturday’s Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals.

Her performance last week: “I feld good. Going into it, I was seeded fourth and ninth, so I really didn’t know what to expect. But it doesn’t really matter what you’re seeded going into it. It matters more how you swim at the meet, so I was really happy that I was able to drop time in both my events.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I diet. We work on special technique things during practice. Everything that’s going to be leading up to my race and during my race, we practice and we focus on so that when it happens, I’m ready for it.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Pancakes”

Favorite class: “Weights”

Favorite sports team: “University of Akron swimming (where she will compete next year)”

Favorite athlete: “There’s a whole bunch of them. I can’t really pick one”

Role model: “My parents (Doug and Janice Sabotin) and my coach, Jennifer Brinegar”

Best advice: “Do your best, have fun, work as a team and honor God.”

Athletics goal: “Just to see what I can do. It will be fun to be on a college team for the first time.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Iceland. I’ve just always wanted to go there.”
