Two arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Columbus police officers arrested two people late Tuesday night after a CPD canine detected the odor of narcotics inside a vehicle during a traffic stop.

At approximately 11:05 p.m., CPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near McKinley Avenue and Gladstone Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Jacob E. Mercer, 30, of Columbus and his passenger, Autumn M. Gibson, 32, of Columbus and requested that a police canine respond to the scene. A short time later, the CPD canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Officers searched the truck and reportedly located methamphetamine, syringes and other drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Both Mercer and Gibson were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were being held on the following preliminary charges:

  • Autumn Gibson: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug injection device, possession of drug paraphernalia
