City to begin spring cleanup March 23

The Columbus Department of Public Works will begin its compost/chipper program soon, along with a city spring cleanup.

The cleanup event will be from March 23 through April 3, and is an opportunity to allow homeowners to clean up yards, flowerbeds and fence rows. Loose leaves, grass, pine needles may be raked to the curb for collection the same day as trash collection.

Beginning April 6 thru Dec. 18, yard waste debris must be in a compost toter — “Toter” brand yard waste containers may be purchased at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Toter contents and brush are collected the same day as trash, with small piles of tree limbs to be stacked next to the curb. Grass, leaves, flowers and garden debris go in compost toters. Nothing woody goes in the green compost toters. One armful of brush/small sticks can go in a brown trash toter each week. Large piles of brush may be picked up by calling 812-376-2509.
