The city of Columbus has issued a new series of protocols as the spread of COVID-19 continues, including the first case of the virus reported in Bartholomew County.
According to the press release from the city, the goal of these actions is to keep essential city services running, protecting city staff and following the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and the Indiana State Health Department, along with local, state and federal medical professionals.
The city of Coilumbus is limiting the number of staff in its facilities, and requests that the public all or email prior to coming into a city building.
First responders for the city, including city firefighters and police officers will continue to be fully staffed and follow normal schedules.
The city will stop fixed transit bus routes as of Tuesday night, but will continue to offer Call-A-Bus services for people with medical needs.
Columbus Animal Care offices will be closed but individuals may make appointments. Animal care officers will respond to emergency situations and staff will continue feeding and care of the animals.
Trash pickup will continue on schedule along with road maintenance.
City utilities will continue to oversee the water and sewer plants and continue to provide service in the field. The utility’s drive-thru window will be open for payments, but the lobby will be closed.
All city parks buildings will be closed to the public but staff will be available by email and by phone. All outdoor playgrounds will continue to be open and will be cleaned daily by city park staff.
Columbus City Hall will remain open but with limited staff. The public is asked to email or phone prior to coming into the building.
