Staff Reports

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. updated its protocols for the beginning of eLearning next week as the state decided to close all schools through May 1.

In an update to families and students, Superintendent Jim Roberts said the pandemic is difficult for students, families and the community but the BCSC teachers and staff members are committed to doing everything possible to address the difficulties being faced.

The school corporation announced that eLearning days will be each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for students and staff. BCSC will use Mondays and Fridays to plan, provide student feedback and participate in professional development.

Teachers will post lesson plan information through BCSC’s learning management system, itslearning, and will be available to interact virtually with students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Because kindergarten students are not assigned a BCSC electronic device, those teachers will communicate activities to families for the students to complete.

Students without a device may retrieve one by visiting their school building between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday or Tuesday.

Students and parents may also schedule an appointment on those days be contacting the main office of their school building.

Roberts said the school administration building, information services center and the transportation and maintenance building will remain open, at least in a limited capacity, during the school closure.

Any student with a damaged electronic device should visit the information services center at 2650 Home Ave., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive a loaner device.

Families who do not have reliable internet access may submit an application to request a wireless internet hotspot by calling 812-418-0252. There are a limited number available.

Comcast is offering a free internet essentials package for those who qualify. Visit internetessentials.com/covid19 for information.

“Although BCSC and all school-related activities are officially closed until Monday, May 4, the evolving nature of this pandemic may result in the need for us to make additional tough decisions,” Roberts wrote in the statement.
