I am a big sports fan and I will miss seeing the events on TV that have been canceled.
This has all happened so quick. It is shocking and disturbing, but I feel it is necessary for the safety of the athletes and, more importantly, the fans and our society as a whole.
With a two-day incubation period until noticed and the hundreds of thousands fans in attendance at these various events, to go on with the events as scheduled could have had a catastrophic spread of the already widely spreading disease.
In my opinion, canceling all the sporting events that attract large, closely pact crowds that could easily spread the virus and not know about for two days was the right thing to do.
I have to give the NBA credit for being the leader in the cancellation of events.
I read where Utah Jazz basketball player, Rudy Gobert, was the first athlete that tested positive for the virus. This spurred the NBA to suspend the season. That was the initial domino the spurred the rest of the sporting world to follow suit and to either cancel or suspend events.
In the same article, Mr. Gobert said he was sorry for causing this historic shutdown of events. I will not accept his apology but I’d rather thank him. If Mr. Gobert had not been found to have the virus when he did we would have had all these events proceed with packed houses. It cannot be calculated how many people would have been infected and possibly died if the events went on as scheduled.
That single finding of a positive test has provided the entire nation with added safety and protection against an unknown monster. This virus is not a "hoax" as our president originally proclaimed. It is real, and we all should be concerned. Be safe and follow all the protocols for keeping everyone safe.
Mr. Gobert, I am sorry you were inflicted with this virus, but don’t apologize. God speaks in many ways. This may be his way of saving thousands of lives in the U.S.
You were just the messenger he sent to us.
