No injuries reported in Hope standoff

HOPE — A nearly four-hour standoff on the southeast side of Hope Sunday ended peacefully.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., Hope police were called to the mobile home park on Walnut Street, just north of South Street. When officers arrived at 125 Walnut St., they were informed a man had battered the mother of a woman who resided in the mobile home, Hope Town Marshall Matt Tallent said.

While the officers were still standing outside the door, the battered woman told them the man who had battered her had four arrest warrants filed against him, Tallent said.

At that moment, the man slammed the door of the mobile home, which turned the incident into a standoff, Tallent said.

Members of the Bartholomew County SWAT team were called to the scene, while Hope officers obtained a search warrant for the home.

The SWAT team was finally able to resolve the standoff at 7:22 p.m., and the suspect was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported

Hope police planned to release more on the incident later Sunday night.
