A local man was arrested early Saturday morning after he was accused of breaking into a parked vehicle downtown.

At about 5:20 a.m., a CPD officer was conducting an extra patrol in the 400 block of Third Street when he located a vehicle in the parking lot with the trunk open, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officer also observed a man on a bicycle leaving the parking lot. The officers located the vehicle owner and determined that a camera was stolen from the vehicle. A short time later, the officers located the man on the bicycle, who was identified as Ryan M. Melloh, 31, of Columbus.

Officers located the stolen camera in Melloh’s backpack and he was placed under arrest, Harris said. The officers also located methamphetamine while searching his clothing.

Melloh was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was held on preliminary charges of theft and possession of methamphetamine.
