Construction crews from Milestone Contractors have been working overtime on the railroad overpass and interchange project on Columbus’ west side that will eventually allow motorists to avoid being stopped by railroad traffic at the intersection of State Road 46 and State Road 11.
Crews have been working six days per week, including weekends, on the estimated $35 million project that is being jointly funded by the Indiana Department of Transportation, city of Columbus, Bartholomew County, Cummins Inc. and the Louisville & Indiana and CSX railroads.
So far, the project remains on schedule, said project manager Nathan Gaskill.
“We’ve been continuing to work on the bridge substructure and continuing to import dirt,” Gaskill said. “…It’s really coming along here. Everybody’s going to continue to see big progress.”
