The Columbus East High School Food Pantry will distribute free prepackaged groceries to Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. families in two shifts Friday.
No-contact pickup of bags will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, said coordinator Greg Lewis.
The second slot was added, and will become the only time slot at future pickups, “since more people will be returning to work and may need the later time to pick up food,” he said.
Vehicles will form a line behind the school at 230 S. Marr Road near door No. 31 near the tennis courts behind the school.
Lewis said that the pantry will have enough food for 320 families. It served 160 families at the last distribution two weeks ago.
Lewis said that number, lower than expected, was probably because the distribution time and date had to be changed from original plans.
“Since the demand at Gleaners (Food Bank of Indiana) has been so great, it is unclear if I will be able to get meat and fresh vegetables going forward,” Lewis said.
The next East pantry pickup after this one is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. May 15.
