INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) said 614 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 26,655 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.
A total of 1,550 Hoosiers have been confirmed to have died of COVID-19, an increase of 42 over the previous day. Another 141 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.
Bartholomew County is reporting 394 positive cases with 30 deaths.
The Bartholomew County Health Department said 3,567 tests have been administered with the 394 positive tests being reported and 2,567 negative results. The health department said 657 tests are pending.
The number of positives of Bartholomew County residents may include testing that was conducted out of county. Conversely, the number of total tests may also include submissions for non-Bartholomew County residents. The counts listed for positives and deaths below is only for Bartholomew County residents
Surrounding counties reported:
- Jackson County: 313 positive cases, one death.
- Jennings County: 111 positive cases, four deaths.
- Decatur County: 216 positive cases, 31 deaths.
- Shelby County: 278 positive cases, 19 deaths.
- Johnson County: 959 positive cases, 93 deaths.
- Brown County: 29 positive cases, one death.
To date, 165,448 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 160,239 on Thursday.
Marion County had the most new cases, at 202. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Allen (60), Bartholomew (12), Delaware (18), Elkhart (21), Hamilton (10), Hendricks (15), Lake (64), Morgan (13), St. Joseph (24) and Tippecanoe (13). The Lake County totals include results from East Chicago and Gary, which have their own health departments. A complete list of cases by county is posted at www.coronavirus.in.gov, which is updated daily at noon. Cases are listed by county of residence.
Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remains steady. Just over 39 percent of ICU beds and 80 percent of ventilators were available as of Friday.
Hoosiers who have symptoms of COVID-19 and those who have been exposed and need a test to return to work are encouraged to visit a state-sponsored testing site for free testing, including one in Columbus.
Individuals without symptoms who are at high risk because they are over age 65, have diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or another underlying condition, as well as those who are pregnant, live with a high-risk individual or are a member of a minority population that’s at greater risk for severe illness, also are encouraged to get tested.
ISDH is holding drive-thru clinics today through Sunday in Bluffton, Gary, Madison and Sullivan. Details of these clinics and additional state-sponsored sites can be found at the COVID-19 testing clinic link at www.coronavirus.in.gov. Individuals should bring proof of Indiana residency such as a state-issued ID, work ID or utility bill.
