What if Bartholomew County held a fair, and Purdue wasn’t invited? Could such a thing happen?
I say ‘yes,’ and it should.
Americans are weary of having our precious liberty trampled by an ever-changing list of reasons, justifications, and excuses as to why we can’t return to our normal lives.
Tuesday, with zero input from the citizens, 4-H families, vendors, staff, and volunteers, the 2020 Bartholomew County fair was summarily executed.
Word is that Purdue’s list of "requirements" would be impossible to enforce, and I agree wholeheartedly.
What they want is not only absurd, but also a direct assault on individual liberty. Full PPE for everyone on fairgrounds and contact tracing of everyone in attendance.
We can have a fair, without Big Brother Purdue’s permission. Granted, it won’t be a "4-H" fair, but it can happen without Purdue’s involvement. The livestock displays and shows can be accomplished in an open-show format.
The kids projects can be displayed and judged. Trophies and awards can be manufactured without 4-H branding. The kids can auction their livestock.
People can have fun for a change.
I know this letter will cause pearls to be clutched in some circles, but it’s time for people to speak up. Each person can choose if they want to participate, and in what way.
What could be more American than that?
In the words of Thomas Jefferson (who lived through far worse things than a virus with a 98% survival rate), "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."
Let’s have a fair, Bartholomew County.
