Letter: Not the right time for a referendum

Even though I have children and grandchildren that are underpaid educators I recently voted NO on the BCSC referendum for a property tax increase. The explanation is simple – it is the timing.

It just doesn’t seem right to vote our teachers a pay raise with so many people going for weeks without a paycheck and worrying about how to make a house payment or pay rent, put food on the table, pay utilities, etc.

God bless our teachers for all the good they do. They deserve a pay raise but now is not the time. I’m sure there are many who would like to trade places with them. As far as I know, every teacher and staff member at BCSC has continued to receive a paycheck during the pandemic.

Now is probably a good time for them to count their blessings.
