Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man after a high-speed pursuit at 12:05 a.m. today on North Indianapolis Road.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Warner was traveling northbound on North Indianapolis Road when he clocked a southbound vehicle at 83 miles per hour in the 45-mile-per-hour speed zone, deputies said.
Warner attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it fled south at a high rate of speed deputies said. It traveled through the roundabout and eastbound on 11th Street, disregarding multiple stop signs along 11th Street while traveling at a high rate of speed, deputies said.
The vehicle traveled south on Pearl Street, where deputies lost sight of it. The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later behind an apartment building in the 700 block of Pearl Street, deputies said.
A CPD K9 tracked from the vehicle to the front door of the apartment building. It was determined that the registered owner of the vehicle resided in the apartment building.
Officers made contact with that subject, identified as Tanner Smith, 40, Columbus. Smith admitted to being the driver and he was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and remanded on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and reckless driving, deputies said.
He was also issued multiple traffic tickets for speeding and disregarding traffic control devices, deputies said.
Smith has since been released from the jail, jail officials said.
