Since this COVID-19, I like many others have kept myself “sequestered,” “quarantined,” and “locked down” for the past several weeks. I have started reading the newspaper, which I haven’t subscribed to since 2008; then, five weeks ago, I had it restarted. Boy, what a time to resume that, at a time of catastrophe, coronavirus, and the year of an election.
I have read every article and letter about our judicial candidates. There have been some negative and inappropriate things said about some of the candidates. It is distressing to believe that I live in a county where some people have no regard to the loss of human life, but instead put their energy in trying to dishonor good people. Shame on you. If you don’t have anything positive to say about your own candidate then say nothing at all. Don’t run a negative campaign; please just stick to the facts.
I personally believe that a judge being elected on the bench should know every detailed aspect of the law. They should have years of experience on the other side of that bench, including both as a defense attorney and as a prosecutor. They should certainly have extensive experience in the courtroom before putting on that robe.
Seeing how many cases have been handled by each candidate is simple, go to www.mycase.in.gov. Those facts should speak for themselves.
While being involved in community activities looks good, it is no substitute for (f)actual legal experience. If you find your candidate has that legal experience, after reading and re-searching their past and present cases, then let those facts speak for themselves. I positively believe we need someone who is an “active member” of the legal profession.
I’m a member of a gym, have been for over 20 years, but to say I’m an active member would only be an embarrassment to myself and a lie. I’ve been to my gym 12 times since last April and that was to use the tanning bed. Now, would you trust me telling you the machines you should use for the areas of your body you wish to target for weight loss? Absolutely not.
I also firmly believe it shouldn’t matter what political beliefs a candidate has because it should never be brought to the courtroom. Wouldn’t that be considered “biased?” Which is not the thinking I’d want a judge to have in order to render a fair judgement. When reading some political letters I cringe at such bias being written. Please think carefully, someday you could possibly be in their courtroom.
In this current election, I’m voting for Scott Andrews because his facts do speak for themselves. He’s active in the legal community and has handled thousands of cases. The true facts of each candidate are out there and I hope everyone studies each of their credentials. When you do, I believe you will come to the same conclusion I have, that Scott Andrews is the right choice for judge.
