A local woman was arrested on drug-related charges after she was stopped by Columbus Police officers for a minor traffic violation on Wednesday evening.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle near 17th and Franklin streets. The officers spoke to the driver who was identified as Sasha S. Penrose, 35, of 2123 Washington St., and requested that a police canine respond to the scene.
A short time later, the police canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers searched Penrose’s car and located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia including three digital scales and smoking pipes, Harris said.
Penrose was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was placed on a 48 hour hold on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, Harris said.
Jail records show Penrose’s bond was set at $60,000, jail officials said.
