Around Town – June 12

Orchids to …

• keeping the Par 3 golf course open as it serves senior citizens who physically cannot play a regulation course.

• President Trump for working so hard to recognize how great most police are. Respect blue, too.

• Gleaners, who sent the line crashers to the back of the line.

• Jennifer Villiger for taking such good care of us, especially on Wednesday, from Mom and Dad.

• the employee at Joe Willy’s who came rushing to check on my daughter when she tripped and fell when leaving the restaurant, from a grateful customer.

• our current president who is the best president of my lifetime.

• Prairie Farms for the gift of the free milk. We just want to let you know in this day and age that we appreciate you and the gift, from the Poynter, Burton and Ray families.

• Stephanie at Simple Abundance at Edinburgh for spreading joy and giving to others.

• Pastor Chad, Pastor Teike, Vicar Matt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for the weekly messages and Sunday messages; we appreciate all you do.

• all the nurses who took care of me after surgery on Tower 5.

• the city for closing down a street to try to help the small business owners stay in business.

• our president for loving this land and not being crooked.

• Tom Lane’s excellent letter, and perhaps a law should be passed requiring a mask because this virus is highly transmittable and spreading quickly.

• our police officers for their willingness to serve not knowing what they will be faced with when called to duty.

Onions to …

• anyone thinking they have a right to judge the actions of others and to report them if they think their action might be “racist.”

• those who refuse to support a local golf course because they say it is not profitable.

• the writer who has no clue what she is talking about, just all trendy buzz words.

• the federal elected official for insisting on retaining the Confederate names at Army bases because the names are “fabled” when in fact the fables are that those men tried to tear our country apart.

• the column who wants us to fix systemic racism. How do you fix something that isn’t there?

• anyone trying to make systemic racism a worse crisis than a virus.

• those considering closing a public golf course.

• our election process whereby states can determine the outcome of the election so that all the campaign effort and money is spent there and our votes really don’t count in this state.

• our rigged election process which twice in this century has resulted in the election of people who the majority of voters did not want elected.

• the federally elected official who is in love with the Confederacy, which is a symbol of treason and racism in our country and his base actually loves that.

• the ridiculous statement that a federally elected official has morals and courage comparable to battle-tested generals, when in fact he is a corrupt coward.

• runners and walkers who feel the need to get their exercise on Marr Road and not use the People Trail right next to it.

• the person who probably doesn’t realize “adjunct” means non-essential.

• protestors who don’t have enough sense to walk away when the situation obviously dictates that he do so.

• to those who don’t understand that riots promote stereotypes.

• the federal leader who doesn’t have time or willingness to oppose racism, but has plenty of time to tweet discredited conspiracy theories.

• people so blind they cannot see how they are being used.

• the police involved in a man’s death, who should have to pay for the expenses incurred from his death and should be put away for a long time.

• the groups across America who believe they are marching in a noble cause, but cannot see they are being used by outside groups.

• allowing a downtown restaurant to block the street, they already blocked the sidewalk.

• directors who cannot direct.

• the church that charged their members for a COVID mask if they did not have one of their own that they brought with them.

• those responsible for passing the law that you have to pay to get an accident report from the local law enforcement.

• the individual who compared our wonderful law-abiding Marine Corps generals as having the same immoral compass as a national leader.

• those who need to think for themselves and read the report to learn that the impeachment was not fake.

• the federally elected official who is dividing the country racially.

• the federally elected official who is withdrawing our troops from another country, which is a self-inflicted wound to our security and global standing.

• the organization still out there having a pitch-in dinner for lunch and expects people to bring food in.

Happy Birthday to …

• Cheryl Sturgeon, from Pastor Marvin Brown and Trinity Baptist Church.
