Around Town – June 17

Orchids to …

• the conservative majority Supreme Court ruling federal law protects LGBTQ workers from discrimination.

• the FDA for confirming hydroxychloroquine was not a “game changer” in the fight against COVID-19.

• body cameras, worthy of a referendum.

• the Supreme Court for affirming all Americans have the same rights and protections, regardless of sexual orientation and conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch for writing the majority opinion.

• Brandon Butler for his article concerning the possibility of a 21st century civilian conservation corp.

• Leah, Claire, and Noah for bringing us dinner and cupcakes, from Mamaw and Papaw and Aunt Donna.

• Dr. Vermillion and his staff at Columbus Animal Hospital for caring for our Mickey for many years with love until the end.

• my church family at the Azalea Friends Church for the drive-by birthday greetings last week, it was very much appreciated, from Sharon.

Onions to …

• people who don’t understand budgets going up due to higher demand of officers and equipment to keep everyone safe.

• people who want everything but don’t want to work or pay for it.

• people who think is is OK not to social distance for a protest but it’s not OK for a political convention.

• the elected official who attempted to start a bar fight over the weekend.

• the federal elected official for never having learned that people kneel to show respect, as to our flag.

• the federal leader encouraging supporters to attend a rally that state health leaders advise against, and asking participants to sign a pledge to hold rally organizers harmless in case they contract the coronavirus.

• the federal elected official whose only interest is winning re-election because he obviously has no interest in governing all of the people.

• local law enforcement for not having dash cameras when they have been in use by law enforcement for 40 years.

• a volunteer being rude at a local food giveaway.

• criminals who say it’s always the policeman’s fault for everything.

• those wanting to close a great, inexpensive golf course and keep the white elephant course that was dumped on them.

• the official urging governors to echo a misleading claim about infection spikes.

• those who are not wearing masks because in doing so they are putting their parents, grandparents, children, friends and family, and people with underlying conditions at risk.

• the big box store with very rude employees who were rude for no reason.

• voters who voted for a tax increase for an organization that works only 180 days a year with every weekend off, summers off, weeks off a time, and has union representation to bargain for pay raises.
