Church to host milk giveaway today

Gallons of milk sit in the back of Leslie Miller's car at Bethel Holiness Church in Columbus, Ind., Friday, June 5, 2020. Miller, the co-manager of the Hartsville Food Pantry, picked up the milk to distribute at her food pantry. Church members set up a distribution point at their church to giveaway 4,000 gallons of milk. The milk from Prairie Farms was provided by the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service. Purdue Extension is partnering with Prairie Farms to distribute gallons of milk to those in need as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

In Bartholomew County, the giveaway will be at 9 a.m. today in the Bethel Holiness Church, 6060 N. U.S. Highway 31, between Woodland Park and Northgate.

A refrigerated truck will be in the church parking lot for distribution of 4,000 gallons of free 2% milk from Prairie Farms. Anyone may drive in and receive a gallon of free milk as long as the supply lasts. There is no need to get out of your car.

Through the program, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is purchasing fresh produce, dairy and meat products from national, regional and local suppliers affected by COVID-19 to provide to food pantries and non-profits.

Due to Purdue Extension’s broad presence in all 92 Indiana counties, Purdue Extension educators have coordinated milk redistribution from Prairie Farms.
