State: Additional 523 Hoosiers diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Thursday

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced that 523 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 43,655 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 2,394 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of nine over the previous day. Another 192 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 444,252 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 431,883 on Wednesday. Today’s totals include the addition of 3,563 historical negative tests from a laboratory that recently began reporting negative results into ISDH’s electronic reporting system.

Bartholomew County is reporting 572 positive tests with 43 deaths.

Surrounding counties reported:

  • Jackson County: 442 positive tests, three deaths.
  • Jennings County: 164 positive tests, nine deaths.
  • Decatur County: 241 positive cases, 32 deaths.
  • Shelby County: 409 positive cases, 24 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 1,205 positive cases, 117 deaths.
  • Brown County: 37 positive cases, one death.
