Our mayor has said that he may recommend closing the Greenbelt golf course partially because it is losing about $50,000 per year.
Certainly, it should be run as efficiently as possible. However, other parks and rec properties such as the Donner Center Pool, the Hamilton Community Center ice skating rink, the Commons playground, and all city parks also are not self-sustaining.
No one would suggest closing one of them.
Greenbelt Golf Course is a course that can be played by the average golfer for a reasonable price. It is a convenient location and I can play nine holes in just a couple of hours. I hope that the mayor and the city council reconsider any proposals.
