HOPE — A Hope man is accused of attempted murder after a shooting at 8:20 a.m. Saturday.
Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and Hope police officers were sent to the 2000 block of Neal Drive in Hope about the reported shooting.
Investigators were told that Linda Venable, 68, Hope, had been shot in the chest by her husband Thomas Venable, 70, Hope, with a small caliber firearm, deputies said.
When officers arrived, Linda Venable was alert and talked with officers and medics before being transported by Lifeline helicopter to a University of Louisville hospital in Kentucky. She is in stable condition but is expected to be admitted to the hospital deputies said.
Deputies said Thomas Venable was taken into custody without incident, and was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for jail clearance.
He was later transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and booked into the jail on a Level 1 felony attempted murder charge.
“This is an unfortunate event that occurred here in a peaceful neighborhood. I’m very proud of our Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement and all emergency responders for the quick response to this incident,” said Sheriff Dept. Maj. Chris Lane.
