Commissioners approve Flat Rock-Hawcreek SRO through December, but funding for 2021 is unknown

The Bartholomew County Commissioners have approved a memorandum of understanding to keep a school resource officer at Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp. through the end of this year, but there is no guarantee funding will be available to keep the deputy in place there in 2021.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Jessica Pendleton will remain with the Hope-area schools through the end of this year, after the commissioners, the school corporation and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department all agreed on the arrangements.

The agreement states that while Pendleton’s salary and benefits will be paid by the county, the Hope-area public schools will reimburse the county $45,000 during the calendar year.

But the arrangement, which is retroactive back to Jan. 1, is valid only through the end of December, commissioners Chairman Carl Lienhoop said.
