Lane closings begin on I-65 bridge projects

Lane closures will begin tonight on I-65 near Columbus as Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors continues bridge work at Carr Hill Road and prepares to begin work at County Road 200S.

Both bridges are part of a nearly-$5 million superstructure replacement contract that began earlier this year.

Starting tonight, alternating lane closures will be in place on I-65 between mile marker 64 and mile marker 68. Nightly lane closures will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through July 18. Crews will also begin guardrail installation on Carr Hill Road, which is expected to reopen in late July.

After July 20, Milestone will close County Road 200S over I-65. Demolition work is planned to begin that night, resulting in intermittent stoppages on the interstate, also between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at a time. Demolition is expected to take approximately one week.

In addition, both bridges (Carr Hill Road and County Road 200S) will be closed concurrently for up to two weeks. The official detour for Carr Hill Road is Terrace Lake Road to Goeller Boulevard to State Road 46. The official detour for County Road 200S will follow Terrace Lake Road to Goeller Boulevard to State Road 46 to State Road 11. Contract completion date for both bridges is Nov. 30.
