The people who refuse to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic claim that it infringes on their personal freedom. They refuse to acknowledge their obligation to society, and that we are all in this together.
Therefore, a logical question is: Will they expect society to have an obligation to them if they are infected by COVID-19? In other words, if they or a member of their family get sick, do they expect to be able to visit a doctor or hospital to be treated? I’m sure they would all say yes.
But why should they be treated? Why should society help those who refuse to protect themselves? Why should over-worked nurses and doctors have any obligation to them? Why are they unwilling to live with the consequences of their refusal? Why?
