Letter: We can’t live in fear of COVID-19

The reason I do not wear a mask is because I do not fear the virus. I am a local truck driver, and I have worked every day through this. I have watched as fear of this virus has ruled the planet. Shut down the planet. Destroyed our economy. I am not going to let fear of a virus that has over a 99% survival rate rule my life.

Everywhere I go I see just as many people without masks as I do with masks. I can only assume they have no fear either. Humans have been fighting germs, viruses and disease since the beginning of time. Our God-created immune system is our only defense, and I believe God knew what he was doing. And I believe he still does.

Americans in generations past charged into battle, with honor and courage, facing almost certain death. We must accept the fact that there is no such thing as guaranteed safety. I do. I’m not selfish or self-centered, I’m just not scared. I don’t know where our political leaders are with courage to step up now, but I sure wish they would if they exist.
