Columbus police officers arrested a local man who is accused of stealing a vehicle at a Columbus gas station on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:05 p.m., officers responded to the Marathon Gas Station, 1105 Washington St., in regards to the vehicle theft. It was reported to officers that the suspect stole the vehicle while it was briefly left running at the gas station, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later, officers located the suspect, who was later identified as Timothy E. Wilder Jr., 30, of 738 Maple St., while he was walking in the 1900 block of Union Street. The stolen vehicle was located nearby at Donner Park, parked and unoccupied, Harris said.
Wilder was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was held on a preliminary charge of auto theft, jail officials said. Wilder was being held in jail in lieu of $7,500 bond.
